The Strategy & Projects department works closely with the MD and Leadership Team of Virgin Holidays, and is responsible for shaping, communicating, and executing the business strategy. Within this role you'll work closely with the Head of Strategy & Project Delivery, as well as other senior management stakeholders where you will support the formulation and execution of the strategy through the provision of insightful research and analysis. You are also required to work more independently as part of different cross-functional teams on discreet strategic issues and initiatives, ensuring that they receive appropriate analytical support and critical commercial challenge.
Monitor market, customer and competitor trends relevant to the business; identify insights, understand the implications for Virgin Holidays, and develop recommended responses
Communicate information, insights and recommendations effectively to the business
Support the development and evolution of the overall business strategy for the company, covering organic and inorganic options
Conduct targeted research and analysis covering the market, customers, and competitors to develop insights and inform the development of the strategy
Demonstrate understanding of key financial drivers, business acumen and commercial judgment
Preparation of presentations for executive team and board meetings
Assistance with preparing and delivering workshops to communicate strategy across the business, including The Gathering (annual) and What’s Up Live (quarterly)
Work effectively as part of a cross-functional team, support the development and delivery of strategic business initiatives, ensuring that they have a strong commercial rationale and are aligned with the overall firm strategy
Support the scoping and definition of initiatives/projects; understand objectives, identify key questions to be answered and hypotheses / assumptions needing validation
Collect and analyse internal and external data, develop logical frameworks to quantitatively assess project benefits and model the financial and commercial implications
Communicate findings and insights effectively to support robust, evidence-based decision making
Provide critical challenge to new initiatives as part of the Strategic Planning Review process (SPR) Contribute to the development of the broader strategy and projects team, by ensuring that project delivery is in line with the strategy and fully understood by the team.
You’ll have relevant commercial experience either in consulting, finance, or industry, and you'll be degree educated (2.1 degree or above) or have an equivalent depth of commercial experience. You'll have sound commercial judgement, the ability to think strategically, and understand the drivers of economic value for the business and its shareholders.
You'll be creative in problem solving, able to devise logical frameworks and analytical pathways for tackling strategic questions. Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills you'll be confident and credible working with senior stakeholders. With strong quantitative analytical skills you'll be able to analyse complex datasets and interpret findings appropriately whilst being able to conduct financial modelling and project valuations.
If you have a minimum grade C in mathematics or equivalent, comfortable working autonomously, able to prioritise demanding workloads and the above sounds like you then we want to hear from you!
